During the course of developing the Maltby Tricept Magnesium Driver, we tested other combinations of crown and shell materials. We were so excited about another multi-material version, we decided to add it to the Tricept line. This second version is the Maltby Tricept Carbon driver. By using composite in the crown, we gained an additional 7 grams of discretionary weight to place low and rearward via two steel internal weights brazed to the titanium shell. In addition, we changed the designed lofts and face angles to 10 (0.5 closed) and 11 (1.5 closed). These adjustments increase the effective lofts to 10.5 and 12.5 respectively. Combined with the additional weight placed low and rearward, the Tricept Composite driver provides higher launch dynamics and straighter ball flight patterns for those golfers with slower swing speeds or golfers that have trouble launching the ball high enough to maximize their distance from other drivers. The composite crown also yields a very solid sound and feel, even on off center hits. The face of the Maltby Tricept Carbon driver is a variable thickness design to promote optimal ball speeds and a solid feel across the entire face of the driver.
